October 26, 2009 HW

1. Complete BOTH activities on p. 621 in Writer's Choice. Follow the directions as they are written. Be sure to check your notes from class today, and refer back to pp 603 and 605 as necessary. This assignment will be collected and graded.

2. Complete the center section of the Venn Diagram for the two stories by Poe - "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Black Cat". You will need to continue on the back of the page. You should have at least 10 (ten) similarities that you have found between the two stories.

**TicTacToe is due on Wednesday. Unit 1-3 vocabulary test is Wednesday.**

October 22, 2009 HW

1. Complete pp. 48-50 in vocab workbook.

2. Finish reading "The Black Cat" by Poe. Demonstrate active reading:

- Have at least one Post-It on each page of the story. On the Post-It, write a similarity or a difference between "The Black Cat" and "The Tell-Tale Heart."

- Highlight at least three (3), but no more than five (5), words or phrases that you find confusing on each page.

- Write at least three (3) comments, questions, reactions, thoughts, etc. in pen or pencil on the margins of the story. There is no limit to the number of things you can write. There are no 'wrong' questions, reactions, etc.

Remember that I do not expect you to understand every element of the story yet. I expect you to react to what you do understand and ask questions about what you do not understand.

**TicTacToe activity is due on Wed., 10/28, which is also the same day as the Unit 1-3 test.**

1. Complete the vocabulary for "The Black Cat." You may use a dictionary or dictionary.com

2. DO not do the "Mood in Writing" exercise - we did not get to that lesson in class today. We will pick up tomorrow.

October 13, 2009 HW

1. Complete page 38 in vocabulary workbook.

2. Finish questions 1-11 for "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe on page 145 in your literature anthology. Be sure to refer back to the story to answer the questions completely.

October 7, 2009 HW

1. The capitalization quiz has been moved to Friday. There will be a review in class tomorrow. Be sure to review your notes this evening.

2. Complete pp. 38 & 39 (worksheets in your Literature section). Both sides of the pages should be completed. For the writing activity, remember to change the directions to read "one paragraph" rather than 2-3.

3. Comic strips will be due on Friday.

4. Autobiographical essays will be due on Friday or Tuesday, depending on when your writing conference was held.

October 6, 2009 HW

1. Complete worksheet page 37 (in the Literature section of your notebook) on parallel structure.

2. Spend about 20 minutes working on your comic strip. They are due on Thursday.

1.  Rough drafts of autobiographical essays are due on Monday.

2.  Finish the capitalization review that we began in class today.  Complete activities on pp. 592-596 in Writer's Choice.  Exercise 1 #1-5, Exercise 2 #1-5, Exercise 3 #1-5, Exercise 4 #1-5, Exercise 5 #1-10, Exercise 6 #1-10, and Exercise 8 #1-10.

**Don't forget that there is a Vocabulary test on unit 2 words, definitions, synonyms, and antonyms on Tuesday!**
