Wednesday, October 27, 2010 HW

1. Finish reading "The Tell-Tale Heart" by 10/29. Complete questions 1-6 at the end of the story. These questions require more than a single sentence as a response. As you read the story, annotate the text. DO NOT write in the book! Either use post-its OR create a chart. The goal is to paraphrase what Poe is saying; in other words translate Poe's language into words/phrases/sentences that you are better able to understand. I am expecting that you will have 15 annotations.

2. Turn your notebook in on 11/3. You must include the table of contents and all pages, completed, dated, and numbered. Put it in a folder with your name clearly written on the front.

Tuesday, October 26, 2010 HW

1. Complete Vocabulary Workshop pp. 48-50.

2. Finish "The Black Cat" comic. The comic should depict the parts of the plot line diagram in the frames. There are 8 frames, so you should have 1 for the exposition, 1 for the inciting incident, 3 for the rising action, 1 for the climax, 1 for the falling action, and 1 for the resolution. Please remember that the drawings should be school appropriate!

1. Write a paragraph summarizing 10 facts that you learned from today's DVD on Edgar Allen Poe. Remember to write a great hook for your introduction and sum up your thoughts about Poe in your conclusion.

1. Complete the worksheet on collective nouns. Choose odds or evens. This will be graded.

2. The final copy of your "This I Believe" essay is due tomorrow UNLESS YOU ARE WAITING FOR A CONFERENCE, and then it will be due on Friday.

3. Unit 3 Vocabulary test is tomorrow.

4. Type the 1st body paragraph to keep yourself on track for the final due date on Monday.

If you haven't already done so, you might want to consider looking at a few more models of these essays on the website thisibelieve.org so that you can see what kinds of things people have written about before you. Remember that you may schedule an appointment with me prior to next Wed if you still have concerns or are uncertain about how to proceed.

2. Complete the Selection Test for "Raymond's Run." Remember that the essay questions need to be completed on a separate sheet of notebook paper. Respond to both questions. A response of 1-2 well-written paragraphs is necessary.
